Common Questions

There are a number of reasons to change your exhaust, starting with the most obvious; to change the sound. In the case of modified vehicles, as you increase the power output of your engine, the volume of exhaust gases leaving your engine with increase. Standard exhausts are generally quite restrictive, so once you reach a certain power level, you will need to install a larger diameter exhaust to cope with the higher volume of exhaust gases.
Changing your cars exhaust system will allow your car's engine to "breathe" better and allow more exhaust gases to escape through it, which provides more room for fresh air to enter your engine and create a bigger combustion on the next cycle. To get the most out of your custom/aftermaket exhaust, you can also have your ECU remapped/chipped to take advantage of the extra air flow and gain further power.
The material that your exhaust is made of doesn't actually have a huge impact on the sound of your car, the sound has a lot more to do with your muffler design and/or resonators. Stainless steel is a common choice for aftermarket exhausts as it is corrosion resistant, relatively light and able to withstand the heat required. Titanium takes it a step further as it is up to 40% lighter, just as strong, and has the added bonus of turning blue when it is heated.
